"Massive state regulation of agricultural markets is a thing of the past. What is important now is to recognise market signals early on and respond to them."(Federal Minister Ilse Aigner)

Agricultural markets are where agricultural products like milk, meat, cereals, sugar, wine, fruit, vegetables and renewable resources are exchanged and prices are fixed. Since the foundation of the EU, market organisations have been used to control agricultural markets. Since the beginning of the 1990s, agricultural reforms have steadily reduced state intervention on agriculture markets.

The promotion of the quality of agricultural and food products is becoming more and more important. Agricultural exports with products from the German agri-food industry are of major economic importance for our country. They make an important contribution to global food security. The BMELV provides targeted support for German companies by means of export promotion measures like, for instance, trade fair participation or the dismantling of existing trade barriers. The data collections that are continuously updated by the BMELV are an important basis for this.
